Financial Tools for the Trades

Every apprentice learns how to use the tools of his or her trade. But there hasn't been an easy way to teach apprentices how to build a solid financial future until now. Financial Tools for the Trades (FTT) is a financial education program tailored to apprenticeship. Port Jobs has created a series of tools for apprenticeship programs and their apprentices, including:

Financial Tools Workshop
Port Jobs leads a two-hour workshop to first year apprentices during their classroom training. Apprentices learn how to:

  • Be prepared for the first year of apprenticeship,
  • Manage their money using spending plans,
  • Be in control of their credit, and
  • Recognize the true cost of using credit.

A sample of the workshop presentation is available online.  Apprenticeship programs can receive a copy of the entire PowerPoint presentation by contacting Port Jobs (see below).

This popular do-it-yourself manual covers the same topic areas as the Financial Tools workshop and adds information on saving and investing. The Survival Guide can accompany the workshop or be provided to apprentices as a stand alone piece. Download a trial copy of the Survival Guide. Guides can also be purchased from Port Jobs - visit the website to order now.

Financial Tools for Apprenticeship Programs
This guide provides an overview of the FTT program, the teaching tools, including the Financial Tools workshop and Survival Guide, and ideas for creating a Financial Tools program.
