Resources

Becoming a mentor
Financial literacy is a huge topic area. Mentors don't have to be experts, but they need a baseline of knowledge about credit, credit reporting, handling debt, etc. Start by completing a few of the FTM activities for yourself (like tracking spending and developing a spending plan). Then read as much as possible. Research will help build a toolkit of valuable resources to use with your clients.

Getting started
Port Jobs has assembled the FTM Resource List - a reference set of useful publications and links that includes training modules developed by Port Jobs. It also includes a "Services in the Community" section to keep track of local services that can benefit clients:

FTM Resource List

This list is a just starting point. Here are a few ideas to help locate other publications and other resources targeted to specific audiences:

1. Review NEFE's Financial Education Clearinghouse.
2. Get a first hand look at potential financial literacy workshops by attending them yourself.
3. Meet a local financial expert to learn about a specific topic and other community services.
